Txai Surui

Walelasoetxeige Paiter Suruí, better known as Txai Suruí, is the daughter of indigenous leader Almir Suruí and activist Neidinha Suruí. She was born in 1997 in the Sete de Setembro Indigenous Land, located near the municipality of Cacoal, in Rondônia, and currently lives in Porto Velho, the state capital. A communicator, artist, writer, activist and coordinator of the Kanindé Ethnoenvironmental Defense Association, she is studying law at the Federal University of Rondônia. In early 2021, she founded the Indigenous Youth Movement of Rondônia, with which she participates in actions in favor of land demarcation and the rights of native peoples. In the same year, she represented Brazil at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), held in Glasgow, Scotland. She is a columnist for the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. In 2024, when she comes to Flip, she will launch Canção do amor (Elo Editora, 2024), a work dedicated to young audiences, in which the author uses her skill with words to inspire new generations to think of new possible worlds.
