Micheliny Verunschk

Micheliny Verunschk was born in 1972, in Recife, Pernambuco. She is a historian, fiction writer and holds a PhD in communication and semiotics from PUC São Paulo. She wrote the book of poems Geograifa íntima do deserot (Landy, 2003; Círculo de Poemas, 2024) and O movimento dos pássaros (Martelo, 2020), winner of the 2021 National Library Prize; the novels Nossa Teresa: vida e morte de uma santa suicida (Patuá 2014), winner of the 2015 São Paulo Literature Prize, and O som do rugido da onça (Companhia das Letras, 2021), winner of the Jabuti and Oceano Awards in 2022. She is also the author of the book of short stories Desmoronamentos (Martelo, 2022), winner of the 2023 National Library Prize. Her most recent work is the novel Caminhando com os mortos (Companhia das Letras, 2023).  In 2021, alongside French writer David Diop, she participated in the panel “Naturalism and violence”, which was part of the main program of the 19th Flip.
