Armando Freitas Filho (Rio de Janeiro, 1940) published his first book of poetry, Palavra, in 1963. A close friend of the author being paid tribute to at Flip 2016, Ana Cristina Cesar (1952-83), he was chosen by her family to be the literary curator of her work; he has edited posthumous volumes of her previously unpublished work and collated her poetry in book form in Poética (Companhia das Letras, 2015). Among his vast, award-winning oeuvre, of particular note are 3×4 (Nova Fronteira/Ediouro,1985), Máquina de escrever (NovaFronteira/Ediouro, 2003), his volume of collected poems, Lar (Companhia das Letras, 2009) and Dever (Companhia das Letras, 2013). At Flip Armando is launching Rol, a book of poems also published byCompanhia das Letras. In 2016 the documentary maker Walter Carvalho, who will be on stage alongside the poet at the opening session of Flip 2016, released his film Keep the Ridgeline, Not the Fainting Plains, an exploration of the poet’s world filmed over the course of almost a decade.
