Nobel Prizewinner for Literature Svetlana Aleksiévich to attend Flip

The Belarusian journalist Svetlana Aleksiévich will be at the 2016 ‘Flip’ literary festival, that will take place between June 29th and July 3rd. The author of “polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time”, as the Swedish Academy explained, her books are extended news articles that essentially transcribe long testimonies in the first person.

Her vast literary resources, which for the first time ensured that the Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to a journalistic work, provide access to a universe that is distant and closed, one that we only knew of from the much colder perspective or from history books. Here we find the lives of ordinary people in the Soviet Union, conversations on politics in Moscow kitchens, the consequences of an environmental disaster, and the tragic destiny of a people who lost the country in which they were born.
